The music of Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi will be performed at Christ Church in Guildford this November as part of two candlelit piano concerts.
Pianist Leo Nicholson will perform works including I Giorni, Nuvole Bianche, Una Mattina, Divenire and Le Onde at the Waterden Road church on Friday 6 November.
Einaudi has become one of the most widely recognised contemporary composers, with his music reaching audiences well beyond traditional classical music. His pieces regularly appear in films, television programmes and streaming playlists, helping introduce instrumental piano music to listeners who might not otherwise attend classical concerts.
His work is known for simple melodic ideas, repetition and gradual changes in rhythm, harmony and dynamics. These characteristics have also made pieces such as Nuvole Bianche and I Giorni some of his most recognisable compositions.
Nicholson said Einaudi's accessibility was part of the reason his music had attracted such a broad audience, allowing listeners to respond to the melody and emotion without needing a background in classical music.
The Guildford performances also reflect a wider shift in how people discover instrumental music. Streaming services, television and film have increasingly blurred the boundaries between classical, contemporary and popular music, with composers such as Einaudi reaching audiences through channels far removed from the traditional concert hall.
The two performances will take place at Christ Church, Waterden Road, Guildford, at 7pm and 8.30pm on Friday 6 November 2026. Each concert will last approximately one hour.
